Situated in the heart of the Old Town, the sign on the street invites you to ‘Feed your mind and feast your eyes’. No overstatement, as this shop is stocked with delights from floor to ceiling including Antiquarian going back to 1650’s to general second-hand books, prints and maps.
The book shop specialises in Scottish history, topography, literature. Art, architecture & photography are also strongly represented here , as Ron, the proprietor, has a background in art and graphic design. Ron has been described as an ‘ageless bohemian’ who has painted many of the great cities of the world and has a particular love of Venice. The Old Town Bookshop’s staff include the’ glamorously arty’ Kirsten and the ‘brilliantly erudite’ Martin.
If you are looking for an introduction to the world of Antiquarian books & maps–look no further. The books range from cheap Graham Greens to Daniel's Tour of Great Britain 1820’s which sells for serious shekels.
There is also a large selection of antiquarian prints of Edinburgh and Scotland, plus flowers, Victorian scraps, old photographs, bookplates and John Kay etchings dating from 1750 to 1880’s A cornucopia of delights awaits!
