Glisten! The Christmas GrassMarket
From Thurs 17th December to Tues 22nd December 2009 Edinburgh's vibrant Grassmarket was home to an exciting new market for Scotland's leading makers, artists and craftspeople.Open for six days the market provided the opportunity for quality makers across Scotland to showcase their work in a glistening marquee in the centre of the Grassmarket.
More than 70 different artists and makers took part over the six days with an eclectic mix of work ranging from: Scotland's last remaining hand shoe and clog maker, Godfrey Smith; Ceramics artist, Cosima Sempill with her 1950s crockery reinventions; the launch of "Made By" a book by Andy Murray, a user guide for how to make your own bag from that old tea towel; beautifully handcrafted wooden turned vessels and bowls by Angus Clyne; homemade cakes from Demeter Baking; amongst many others unusual finds from homewares, textiles, painting, photography, secondhand vinyl, to furniture and classy craft many with a vintage and recycled slant.
We are currently assessing future plans for markets in the Grassmarket for 2010. Anyone wishing to be kept informed about future events or wishing to have a stall, please email edinburghgrassmarkets@googlemail.com or follow 'Edinburgh Grassmarkets' at Facebook.
