The Cadies & Witchery Tours

The Cadies & Witchery Tours take a light-hearted look at Edinburgh’s darker side including tales of witchcraft, plague and torture.  Your ghostly guide will blend history with humour and facts with fables, while “jumper-ooters” provide guaranteed ghostly appearances.

Join infamous highwayman Adam Lyal (deceased) for the Murder & Mystery Tour, available just after nightfall every night of the year (except 24-26 December).  Mr Lyal’s tales of Old Edinburgh, painstakingly researched from court and council records, are sure to be hair-raising and rib-tickling in equal measure.  But don’t relax too much… round almost every corner lurk fearsome phantoms, waiting to terrify helpless tour-groups!

In summer (mid-April to early September), you don’t need to wait for darkness to fall, as 19th-century cemetery director Alexander Clapperton presents our Ghosts & Gore Tour every evening.  Mr Clapperton is an expert on Edinburgh’s grisly past, but still keeps tongue firmly in cheek.  On this tour it isn’t just the guide telling tales: the ghostly “jumper-ooters” are back, and when not terrorising, will regale you with their own humorous and sometimes tragic stories.

Tours cost £8.50 per adult, £6.00 per child.  Booking in advance is essential.
